Carolina Shores Quilters Guild PO Box 4465, Calabash, NC 28467
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Well we sure started the New Year off with a great meeting in Jan. Thank you
to Rose, Morie and Solveig for all their hints on hand quilting and marking.
Show and tell was very light but I know we were all busy celebrating the Holidays with family and friends.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the mystery quilt starting on the 4th Friday of this month.
The materials for the fat quarter drawing for Feb. will be Easter material; March is a special material for a project that we will be working on. (It will be taken up at the February meeting). For April, the fabric will be flowers, and for June red, white and blue.
Also, I hope many have started on their challenge for our May 9th meeting. The challenge is CELEBRATE, no larger than 36x36. We will be having a board meeting at my house at 7:00 on Feb.4; everyone is welcome.
One last thing, remember to sign up for symposium in Wilmington May 29-June 1.
Looking forward to our next meeting and making post cards.
Bonnie Reinecke

VICE-PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Morie Austin announced that in February, fabric postcards and calling cards
will be the workshop. These postcards can be mailed in the US mail. Laces, trims
and embellishments will be needed. Other supplies will be furnished.
BLOCK OF THE MONTH
Kay Forbes thanked members for the "Sawtooth Star" block. Being that
there were so few, that quilt will have to be delayed.
February block will be a heart appliqué and a red nine block. A copy is attached. Colors should be red, white and pink, preferably a heart pattern.
As historian, she asked that members look at the pictures she brought to help
her determine the year in which they were taken. She will have extra pictures
at February meeting for members to take.
The fat quarters were won by Solveig Snyder. Solveig will donate those quarters
back to the guild for a project.
SYNPOSIUM
Morie encouraged members to purchase the 1 day ($25.00) ticket to the Symposium
being held in Wilmington the week of May 29 - June 1, 2008, if they were not
interested in the entire week. The booklet of instructors and classes was available
to look through. Information can be obtained online at www.ncqsi.org. Or by
sending $4.00 to NCQSI 2008, c/o Bev Cochran, 4920 Coronado Drive, Wilmington,
N.C. 28409.
OLD BUSINESS
Bonnie thanked the committee in charge of the Christmas luncheon and read a
thank you note from the Bureau of Family Assistance. A food basket had been
donated to them from the guild. Items for display at the Hickman Library were
collected.
NEW BUSINESS
Kay Forbes volunteered to head the committee for the challenge for May 9 luncheon.
Barbara Errickson and Inez Barrett will help her set the entries up. The title
of the challenge is "Celebrate" and the entry cannot be larger than
36" x 36". An invitation will be mailed out to the Oak Island Quilters
to inform them of the date, time and challenge.
Jo O'Keefe will attend the February meeting to take some new pictures for the webpage. Apparently the webpage is paid for through 2010 and she would like to update it. Please bring some show and tells even if you have shown them once before.
Bonnie would like Easter fabrics for the fat quarter exchange in February, March- please bring any pattern and color, and April will be floral.
DEMONSTRATION
Morie, assisted by Solveig and Rose demonstrated hand quilting showing the various
types of needles and pattern marking devices.
WORKSHOP
Some members worked on unfinished projects, but there were a lot of volunteers
who helped to hand baste together Barbara Errickson's quilt, using Morie's quilting
stand.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Sneska, secretary
OAK ISLAND CHALLENGE

It can be any size up to 36" by 36". It is not too early to start
your project. We hope that there will be many entries from our creative ladies.

NEXT MEETING:
February 8th @9:30 AM
HOSPITALITY GROUP: GROUP V
Kay Forbes, Kathy Welker, Rose Marcisyn, Marilyn Anderson, Solveig Snyder, Barbara
Hutton. And Jeanne Shields.
There has been a program change for our February meeting. It will be post cards instead of the Round Robin that was printed in the handbook.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Ladies need to bring "stuff" that they would like to use for an embellishment
project -buttons, ribbons, yarn, lace, or anything that could be used to decorate
and make a small rectangle look pretty. Scrap bits of fabric can be useful for
backs. Artist trading cards and/or post cards will be made. This activity will
replace the traditional "round robin" format of prior years, but we
will all be moving around and looking for that special "pretty" to
make our masterpiece. Be willing to share the findings that you bring. If there
are pieces that you do not wish to share, keep them separate. A glue stick would
be a useful item for everyone to bring. Although you may wish to do some stitching
on your project, you can complete that part at home with a sewing machine or
needle and thread. You may also choose to bring your machine or hand sewing
supplies to the meeting. The few other supplies that are needed will be provided.
We should be finished before lunch.
The first workshop for the Mystery quilt will be Friday, January 25th @ 9:30 AM.
Fabrics should all be cut as per instructions that were passed out at our December meeting.
The first step on the yellow paper should be finished or at least started (sewing the strips together).
Jo O'Keefe informed us that the carolinashores.info web site is being extended until 2010. That is where all our quilt stories, news, and pictures are located. She would like to update the site with new pictures and information. Jo has been invited to attend our February meeting to photograph new items for the web site. Please bring your quilt projects to the meeting so that they can be photographed.
Thanks
Marge Dale
PLEASE BRING QUILTS, EVEN IF THEY WERE SHOWN BEFORE SO THAT THEY CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED
AND PUT ON THE WEB SITE.
