Australian Spotted Jellyfish, Phyllorhiza punctata,upside down, Sunset Beach, NC, 10/30/07; because each flip flop is 10 inches long, this specimen is approx. 29 inches in diameter. It is an invasive, nonindigenous species.

These 26 spires were built by John, left, Gary, center and Megan Kiger, right, on Sunset Beach, NC, 10/13/07. Perhpas the Kigers built these structures that resemble pine trees coated with thick snow, because they live in the mountains of North Carolina.
