Pear Whelks

Although Pear Whelks, Busycotypus spiratus, are seldom found on Sunset Beach, I am posting photos at the top of this whelk webpage because I accidentally omitted them. Some have a protruding apex while others have a flat, squished-looking one as in the specimen below. Their egg cases are found on Sunset Beach. Newborn Pear Whelks differ significantly from the newborn Knobbed Whelks shown further down on this webpage.
